Store thief identified
State police have released the identity of an at-large burglary suspect alleged to have stolen $1,500 worth of cigarettes and $50 in rolled and loose change from IGA Market in Shinglehouse.
Troopers from the Denton Hill barracks report that Nicholas J. Matasich, 19, of Shinglehouse, was caught on camera and identified after his picture was published in local newspapers.
Police are now trying to locate the suspect. He has been charged with burglary and theft.
Assault investigated
A resident of Adelphoi Village in Harrison Township is being held in the Potter County jail without bail following an altercation at the former Northern Tier Children's Home on Friday evening.
State police claim 18-yearold John M. Sheaffer assaulted Jamie R. Paulhamus' of Elkland, Amanda Vinluan of Westfield, Mark Zedonek of Galeton, and a 17-year-old male resident of the home. Paulhamus and Vinluan's injuries required treatment at Charles Cole Hospital.
Sheaffer was arraigned before District Judge Delores Bristol on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, simple assault and harassment.
Gas line ruptures
Volunteer firefighters from Harrison Township, Ulysses and Westfield responded Saturday evening to a gas line leak along the Pleasant Valley Road.
A Dominion Compressor spokesman said a malfunction at the Harrison Valley station caused a rupture in a 20- inch transmission line. Residents who heard an explosion notified the emergency dispatch center.
Burglary case solved
Emporium Borough Police have filed charges against a juvenile for a burglary at East End Beverage in the borough last August.
The suspect's name was not released. Police say the juvenile admitted to breaking into the business and stealing $65. The case is being handled by the Cameron County Probation Department.
Charges pending
Charges are pending against a Ulysses driver following a one vehicle crash Sunday morning on Route 44 just north of Hungry Hollow Road in Abbott Township.
State police said Chad Everett escaped injury when his northbound Ford Ranger came to rest on the passenger side after striking an embankment.
Ejected from car
An Emporium woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash last Thursday night.
State police from Emporium said the driver, Betty Varner of Emporium, lost control of her Ford station wagon on Moore Hill Road in Shippen Township. She was ejected from the vehicle after it rolled over several times.
A 15-year-old female passenger received minor injuries. Two boys, ages 12 and 17, escaped injury. Police refused to release the names of the juveniles, all of whom were wearing seat belts.
Charged with DUI
A downstate man faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Stacey J. Bogenschutz, 42, of of Douglassville, was observed driving a pickup truck moving erratically in the parking lot of a Coudersport convenience store. The truck became lodged between a gas pump and a curb.
Bogenschutz eventually freed the truck and drove off, but he was apprehended on East Second Street. Police determined that he was intoxicated and filed charges.
In a separate case, Emporium Borough Police filed two DUI counts and a separate charge of failure to keep right against 32- year-old Pauline A. Decker of Emporium. Charges stem from an incident occurring last Saturday, police said.
State police at Denton Hill apprehended a Georgia man who was allegedly operating an all-terrain vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Michael R. Adamski, 43, was pulled over while driving a four-wheeler on Crippen Run Road in West Branch Township.
Assault investigated
Two Emporium residents are facing charges for allegedly assaulting an individual in the borough.
According to Emporium Borough Police, Timothy Summers and Diana R. Reed, both 43, are charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and making terroristic threats. Name of the victim was not released.
