Bear hunter rescued from crevasse Emergency responders in Cameron County performed a difficult rescue operation on Nov. 20 involving a bear hunter. A Pittsburgh area man had fallen down a steep incline in pursuit of a bruin he had shot. Mountaineer Search and Rescue was called to the scene, joining fire and ambulance units from Emporium, Sinnemahoning and St. Marys personnel were also dispatched to the scene. After six long hours, the unidentified man was finally taken from the woods using a basket and ropes. Emporium Fire Chief Butch Housler estimated that there were between 25 and 30 people assisting in the rescue. The man, who was not identified by rescue officials, was transported to Elk Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries and has since been released. |
