Home games for Raider girls Cameron County has a string of non-league girls' basketball games coming on the home court as coach Dave Sullivan's Red Raiders prepare for a holiday tournament in Punxsutawney, followed by Northern Tier League play. Wins have been hard to come by for the Red Raiders (0-3), who traditionally face a tough non-league slate to prepare for the more meaningful games later on. On Friday night, the Raiders will host Johnsonburg. They're back on the home floor Monday night against Brockway, then host a weak Galeton team next Saturday. Powerful St. Marys came to Emporium and beat the Cameron County girls, 59-25, in what can best be described as a learning experience for the hosts. After falling into a 19-2 hole, the Red Raiders stepped up their game a notch but were clearly out of contention against this Class AAA powerhouse. Senior Kristin Sestina led CCHS with eight points. DuBois edged Cameron County in the consolation game of the Brockway Tip-Off Tournament last Saturday, 44- 40. The winners nursed a sixpoint lead into the final quarter and held on, despite 12 points and 12 rebounds by Sestina. Whitney Lewis scored eight points, while Shelby Summers and Bre Dunsmore added seven apiece for Cameron County. In last Friday's season opener, the Raiders overcame an early deficit and pushed Brockway to the final buzzer before losing a 34-30 game. Sestina had 17 rebounds and scored nine points for Cameron County, who was 10-of-25 from the foul line. |
