THE FACE OF EXPERIENCE

After nearly 67 years of undying devotion to the American Red Cross and to the hundreds of medical patients around the country who need the gift of donated blood, Gladys Miller said that Thursday's donation may be her last. The Emporium woman, who started donating blood during World War II, turns 90 next week. If she does stop, she won't owe the American Red Cross anything. Including Thursday's gift, Gladys has donated 209 pints (over 26 gallons if you're wondering!) of blood, enough to save the lives of over 600 people, according to Red Cross statistics. She has encouraged many others to begin donating blood over the years, perhaps accounting for hundreds more gallons of donated blood from others who have followed her lead. She has always considered it her duty and her presence at blood drives as an example for others who need the encouragement to get out and do it.
