Remembering Rosenbloom's Men's Store

Rosenbloom's Men's and Boys' Store was a provider of fine clothing at the county seat for decades.

For many years, it was operated by the affable S. Joseph Rosenbloom, whose wife, Rena, became manager upon his death.

Joe Rosenbloom, born in 1904, graduated from Austin High School in 1922. After he earned his business degree, he became a manager and partner of the Coudersport store.

In 1934, Joe Rosenbloom married Rena Stone of Minneapolis. She was the daughter of the late Lewis B. and Lena C. Stone, former residents of Austin. Both Joe and Rena were active in civic affairs for many years.

Rena continued to operate the store after Joe's death. She eventually sold the business and it became Mr. G's Men's and Boys' Store and, later, the Hitching Post. Today, the building is owned by Alan Acker and occupied by Cowburn's Solid Body Gym.
