Van rolls over
Seat belts likely allowed a downstate man and two passengers to escape injury when the van in which they were traveling slipped on an icy section of Wycoff Road and overturned Sunday afternoon. Troopers from the state police barracks in Emporium said Russell Peters of Centre Hall was driving a Chevrolet in Gibson Township when the vehicle slid off the road, struck an embankment and rolled over onto the passenger side. Peters, Mechelle Perio and a 15-yearold boy whose name was withheld by police were all wearing seat belts and were uninjured.
Hit-and-run charges
Police from Denton Hill have filed hit-and-run charges against a Tremont man, 47- year-old Dale Marks. Troopers report that Marks was driving a pickup truck that struck a pole in the village of Cross Fork in southern Potter County and fled the scene. The crash destroyed the pole and caused power lines to fail, leaving dozens of customers without electricity. Marks was apprehended within hours at a local establishment.
Electronics pilfered
A theft taking place sometime between Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning in northern Potter County remains under investigation by state police from Denton Hill. Someone broke through the back door at the home of Kenneth Dixon on Grover Hollow Road and removed two large-screen TVs, a sound system and a video game console. Value of the stolen items was estimated at $5,000.
Identity theft
Someone was able to access credit card information of a Coudersport area man and use it to purchase items in Kentucky. State police from Denton Hill identified the victim as Norman Hicks of Dingman Run Road. The investigation is continuing.
Criminal trespass
A Roulette Township woman is being charged with criminal trespass for depositing trash in a commercial establishment's dumpster. Police said 50-yearold Cynthia Sullivan put garbage in a dumpster owned by the Friendly Inn in the village of Roulette without permission. Her identity was discovered during a search of the trash.
Wreck at Ladona
A Galeton woman suffered minor injuries in a one-vehicle mishap occurring on East Second Street in Coudersport Borough. Police said Kimberly Buchsen was at the wheel of a Ford Ranger that went off the road in the village of Ladona and struck a utility pole.
Car, deer collisions
Several car/deer crashes have been investigated by state police in recent days. Philip Staib of Johnstown was driving a Ford sedan west on Route 6 in Ulysses Township when a deer bounded into the road. The vehicle struck the animal and was moderately damaged. Staib and his passenger, Charles Staib, also of Johnstown, were both wearing seatbelts and escaped injury.
William Bataille of Pittsford, N. Y., was driving a cargo van on Route 872, just north of the Southwoods Road, in Homer Township and struck a deer in the highway. Bataille escaped injury.
A vehicle operated by Edward Grimes of Port Allegany sustained moderate damage when it struck a whitetail that jumped onto Route 155, between Port Allegany and Emporium. Grimes was not injured.
