Weather monitors needed The Pennsylvania Climate Office needs more people to help monitor and report on the weather in northcentral Pennsylvania. Weather trends such as warmer winters and more frequent heavy rain have generated interest from climate officials to modernize their Citizen Weather Observation Program. Paul Knight, Pennsylvania state climatologist, is reviewing and upgrading the network of volunteer weather observers with plans to place up to 20 new sites in the region. Assisting with the expanded network will be the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Forest Service, Pa. Emergency Management Agency and other public organizations. In addition, an internet-based system will be developed to connect weather data networks. Additional information is available toll-free from Kevin Abrams at 1-888-868-8800 or from Paul Knight at (814) 863- 1842. |
