Weatherization funds available Low-income residents of Cameron and Potter counties can qualify for governmentfinanced work on their home heating systems, insulation and related "weatherization." Up to $2,800 is available for each qualifying residence. The program is available to homeowners and renters in houses, apartments and mobile homes. The program is being provided through the Emporium-based Northern Tier Community Action Corp. Funds come from the state's Department of Community and Economic Development. Weatherization can include everything from window repairs and furnace repair or replacement to air sealing to insulation. Typical weatherization procedures can be completed in one to two days, depending on the scope of the project. It starts with an energy audit to determine which weatherization measures are the most cost-effective. Northern Tier also educates individuals and families about energy conservation. Annual income limits are as follows: one person, $15,315; two, $20,535; three, $25,755; four, $30,975; five, $36,195; six, $41,415; seven, $46,635; add $5,220 for each additional family member. Service is provided at no cost to eligible participants. Additional information is available from Northern Tier at 486-1760. |
