Sinnemahoning sportsmen improving habitat

Members of the Sinnemahoning Sportsmen's Club plan to do their part for wildlife habitat in early 2008.

Club members will be setting dates for pruning of fruit trees in several sections of Cameron and Elk counties.

"Pruning can be very beneficial for wildlife," said club spokesman Ray Savel. "We're looking for a good number of club members to turn out and show their concern for the game and non-game species that depend on the natural habitat for survival."

Sinnemahoning Sportsmen's Club will also be making available supplies of corn for winter wildlife feeding. Members planning to pick up and distribute corn should bring their own containers to the clubhouse from 10 am to 1 pm on these dates: Jan. 12, Jan. 19, Jan. 26, Feb. 2 and Feb. 9. The club and kitchen will be open.

Club members can volunteer for the pruning work and participate in other business at the next membership meeting, to be held at 9 am Sunday at the clubhouse at 15 Club Road, Sinnemahoning.

There are currently 5,333 members, with a goal of 6,000 for 2008.

Plans are in place for the annual Coyote Hunt, to be held Feb. 15-17. Mail registration deadline is Feb. 2. Hunters may also register in person at the clubhouse on Jan. 12, Jan. 19, Jan. 26, Feb. 2 and Feb. 9 from 9 am to 1 pm.

The hunt covers several counties and is open to members only. Additional information is available by phone at 546-2835.
