Rent, tax rebate deadline nearing

With the deadline to apply for the state's Property Tax/ Rent Rebate Program nearing, a large proportion of senior citizens who are eligible for the money have not applied.

Deadline is Dec. 31. Eligibility standards have been relaxed this year and the maximum rebate has been increased to $650.

The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with disabilities.

Household eligibility income limit is now $35,000, excluding 50 percent of Social

Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Railroad

Retirement benefits.
