Gobbler bonus tags on sale Jan. 1

Beginning Jan. 1, Pennsylvania sportsmen and women who would like to harvest a second spring gobbler may apply for a license.

Hunters are able to take one spring gobbler as part of their general hunting privileges.

Applications for the second spring gobbler license are available in the Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations or by going to the Game Commission website, pgc.state.pa.us.

Fees are $21 for Pa. residents and $41 for nonresidents.

Application period closes on April 1. Spring gobbler season is April 26- May 26.

Mary Jo Casalena, Game Commission wild turkey biologist, said turkey populations can easily sustain the additional harvest.

Casalena also said the agency plans to consider additional changes, including extending hunting hours beyond noon, in future years.

Revenues from the special license support the Game Commission's turkey management plan and educate turkey hunters on safety and other aspects of the sport.
