Solid Waste Authority gets grant

Potter County Solid Waste Authority has received a $3,142 grant from the state to help cover expenses of recycling operations based at the transfer station near Gold. The grant was calculated on recycling collections in 2005.

Grants are awarded to communities based on the amount of recyclable materials collected such as cans, bottles, newspapers, plastics and cardboard.

In 2005, Pennsylvanians recycled a record 4.86 million tons of municipal waste, saving consumers and industries nearly $263 million in disposal costs and providing businesses with materials valued at $577 million.
