Falcon girls swarm over foes Danger lurks for anyone who stirs up a hive of nasty bees. Opponents of the Coudersport girls' basketball team are finding that out. After a 1-2 start during which his team was not playing up to its potential, coach Brian Green didn't mince his words. Some adjustments were made and, since that time, the Falcons have rattled off three straight wins owed largely to an extremely aggressive defense. "That was a like a nightmare," said Johnsonburg coach Mike Zilkofsky, after his visiting Rams endured the relentless pressure of the Coudersport D Wednesday night in a 65-36 loss. "They were all over us!" Offensively, the Falcons (4- 2) took a little while to get in gear and, although satisfied with the overall game, Green said he'd like to see more production. "We did a lot of things well tonight, but we seemed to forget how to make a lay-up," Green said. "I'm sure that will work itself out." Senior Jessica Wilson played what Green described as her best game of the season with 20 points and eight rebounds. Junior Karli Duffee hit a pair of treys and finished with 10 points. Kristy Kamper (9), Kayla Bohn (8) and Stephanie Kelley (8) contributed offensively while playing key roles in the defensive swarm, as did Kelly McVay and Jordan Bright. Last Friday, Coudersport exploded for a 17-2 lead midway through the first quarter and buried visiting DuBois High, 65-25. Wilson had 12 points, six assists and eight rebounds. Kamper scored a game-high 17 points. McVay scored 11 points and had six rebounds. Bohn handed out six assists and scored eight points. Coudersport hosts Troy on Friday with the JV game at 4:30 and varsity to follow at about 6. The Falcons will be idle until the Dec. 27-28 Coudersport Holiday Tournament, followed by the Northern Tier League opener Jan. 2 at Austin. |
