Basketball All-Stars selected
      Eight area high school seniors will play in the ninth annual Alice R. Kozel Foundation District 9 Basketball All-Star games on Saturday, March 29, at Penn State-Du- Bois. The girls' game starts at 4 pm, followed by the boys' game at 6. A three-point shooting contest will be held at halftime of each game.

     Coudersport is on the brink of an undefeated season in boys' basketball. The Falcons close out their season with a pair of games this week with Otto-Eldred. A 37-26 win over a tough Port Allegany squad gave Coudersport a 15-0 record. Chris Rigas (12), Tim McCusker (10), Jason Gibson (7) and Alex Furman (6) carried the scoring load. "I am very proud of our kids," said head coach John Sherry. "Their hard work and unselfish play have really paid off." Amateur baseball returns to Austin
      Alle-Catt Amateur Baseball League action is back in Austin after a 25-year absence. Plans to field a team in the adult baseball league came to fruition a few weeks ago. With players from the Coudersport area joining those from Austin, the team expects to be competitive right form the start.

Baseball, softball sign-ups
      Austin Baseball Association is offering a "last chance" registration session for local youth baseball and softball programs Monday at the school from noon to 2 pm. Players and parents or guardians must be present for a review of the season's rules. Participation fee is $20 per player.

Harlem Wizards coming to Austin
      Tickets remain on sale for the March 31 appearance by the basketball comedy act, the Harlem Wizards, at Austin Area School. The 7 pm show is a benefit for the class of 2015 and the Austin Area PTO.

Wrestling all-stars announced
      Two underclassmen from Coudersport and Cameron County and Coudersport were among 17 boys named to the Allegheny Mountain Wrestling League All-Star Team. To no one' surprise, Coudersport sophomore Dirk Cowburn was named to the ceremonial all-star team and selected as the league's outstanding wrestler.

Coaching changes at Coudersport
      There's a coaching shakeup at Coudersport High School. Head football coach Paul Simcoe and long-time assistant Tom Russell made their retirement official at last week's school board meeting. Also stepping down are Chris Fink, varsity basketball; Gary Francis, girls' golf, and James Wilkinson, boys' golf.

      Four young wrestlers from Cameron County are heading to state Junior Olympics finals after their strong showing at the Pa. Area 5 Meet last weekend in Brookville. Cameron County sent 11 qualifiers to Brookville.

Baseball tryouts slated
      Coudersport Service Club is once again sponsoring youth baseball programs. Tryouts for Little Leagues (ages 9-12) are Wednesday and Thursday nights at the elementary school starting at 5:30. Babe Ruth Baseball (ages 13-15) tryouts are Saturday, March 29, at CARP Field, starting at 2 pm.
