DAM SHOW' A SUCCESS
A drum workshop by Buddhahood was one of the audience participation events during last weekend's Dam Show. For most of the two-day festival, a record crowd relaxed on lawn chairs and blankets while bands from Tennessee, Virginia, Massachusetts and elsewhere performed bluegrass, country, folk, rock and other music not as easily defined. Julie Barrett Cataldo (shown) performed with Freakish Owl Boy as part of Saturday afternoon's program. See more from the sixth annual Dam Show on page 8. Spokesmen from the sponsors, Potter County Fine Arts Council and the Austin Dam Memorial Association, were thrilled with the turnout and thankful for the volunteers who made it all come together. Carolyn Gerg Jensen emphasized changes in lifestyle and daily routines that can lead to better health as guest speaker for last week's Emporium Rotary meeting, She is a certified holistic health counselor and teacher of hatha yoga. She is currently a student of Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old medical tradition of India. During a lively, interactive discussion, she encouraged Rotarians to consider making easy changes that can lead to better health: breathing properly, eating properly, and getting enough sleep. Proper nutrition and avoiding stress are also important for good health, she pointed out. Jensen is shown with program chair Jim Condon. In other business, Rotarians were informed that the next order for Rotary shirts will soon be placed. Shirley Condon has details. Harold B. ("H.B.") Fink Jr., 81, of Coudersport, passed away on Monday (July 21, 2008) at his home, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. Born on Nov. 16, 1926, in Sayre, he was the son of Harold B. Fink and Helen Marks Fink. On Oct. 31, 1952, he married Cynthia Glennon, who survives. More...
