Solveson signs with York team
      Saul Solveson is back in professional baseball. The 28-year-old righthander from Emporium signed on with the York (Pa.) Revolution to pitch out of the bullpen for the remainder of the 2008 season. In his first appearance Tuesday night, Solveson pitched a scoreless, hitless inning.

Cowburn national runner-up!
      Coudersport teenager Dirk Cowburn returned to the national wrestling scene this week, claiming second in USA Wrestling Greco-Roman Championships at Fargo, N.D. He fell to Wisconsin's Kalvin York, 3-2, 7-1, in the battle for the national 152-lb. title. Cowburn had defeated York earlier in the National Freestyle Tournament, 5-0, 4-6, 5-0.

Raiders' first scrimmage set Aug. 16
      Coach Tony Defilippi sends his Cameron County Red Raiders up against Elk County Catholic during a varsity football controlled scrimmage on Saturday morning, Aug. 16, at Emporium. Preseason practice sessions open on Monday, Aug. 11.

Potter-McKean claims D15 title
      A scrappy group of area 9- and 10-year-old baseball players entered the Pa. Little League Baseball sectional tournament this week, after claiming the District 15 championship. Potter-McKean defeated Athens, 9-4, in the district title game.

     First annual Coudersport Falcon football camp was a success. Almost 40 youngsters from grades four through seven turned out to learn about the game, while running through drills, scrimmaging and showing their punting, passing and kicking skills. The camp was run by the Coudersport coaching staff and players both past and present. Alle-Catt playoffs start Sunday
      Emporium may be peaking at the right time as the Alle- Catt Amateur Baseball League playoffs get underway this weekend. Austin (9-6) comes to Emporium (9-5) in one of the playoff openers Sunday at 2 pm. Sunday's winner plays again next Saturday against either Port Allegany or Cuba. The loser also plays again on Saturday against a team to be determined.

Habitat golf event Aug. 13
      A golf tournament to benefi t Potter County Habitat for Humanity will be held at the Coudersport Golf Club on Wednesday, Aug. 13. Volunteers are needed to line up sponsors, door prizes and participants. Last year's Eagles for Habitat tournament raised about $3,000.

Camp Cadet golf tourney
      Registration is underway for the fourth annual Camp Cadet Camp Golf Tournament, to be held at the Emporium Country Club on Saturday, Aug. 15. State Sr. LL Tourney underway : Clingan, Grasser to be honored
      Two local baseball legends will be recalled during a ceremony at noon Saturday in Emporium. Cameron County is once against hosting the State Championship Senior Little League (ages 15-16) Tournament, which got underway on Thursday.
