Through An 'Old Timer's' Eyes
      Last Saturday was my 79th. birthday and my wife had a surprise party for me. She had it in a phone booth, but the band couldn't play because the tuba player couldn't get his instrument through the door. Even though the party was a bust, overall I had a very nice birthday with lots of phone calls and cards.

Gaining appreciation and respect
      Recently, I returned from re-enacting as a Bucktail Regiment soldier at Gettysburg. Dressing in a blue wool uniform and a kepi over the Independence Day weekend gave me a deeper appreciation and respect for what these Civil War volunteers endured. I felt as if I had stepped back in time to help defend the North from Confederate lines.

It saddens us to recently read that some veterans in Cameron County feel that they have had no facility here that honors them, when, in fact, you helped build such a place 36 years ago.
