SCHOOL PROJECTS ON SCHEDULE
      Coudersport Area School District will open the new school year with about $9 million in changes, but no expected delays. The two-part elementary school project should be completed by the time students climb off the buses on Aug. 25.

WEEKEND IN THE WILDS AUG. 15-17
      Emporium will be buzzing with activity during Weekend in the Wilds. In just its second year, this event is growing in popularity as a summertime community celebration with the potential to attract tourists who are lured by the state's "Pennsylvania Wilds" marketing campaign. Cameron County Chamber of Commerce has activities lined up for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15-16.

Taxes unpaid on Rigas properties
      Many local governments in Potter County got a wake-up call this week when the county's Tax Claim Bureau (TCB) released a list of those properties slated to go up for auction due to non-payment of taxes. Taxes to the county, school districts and townships are overdue on dozens of parcels owned by the Rigas family and/or Wending Creek Farms.

      Fatal ATV crash WARREN -- An Ohio man died in an all-terrain vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Warren County. State police said Jack Morris, 74, of Geneva lost control of the vehicle while descending a hill on the Rocky Gap ATV Trail.

      Political candidates were stumping for votes Tuesday night at the Cameron County Fair. Republican Glenn Thompson, nominee for the U.S. Congress seat being vacated by the retirement of Rep. John Peterson, and Democrat Donald Hilliard, running for Pa. State Senate, greeted fair-goers and shared their views.

      Geocachers use global positioning system (GPS) receivers to pinpoint the longitude and latitude coordinates where caches are located. A typical cache consists of a waterproof container, a log book and trinkets. Signing the log book proves you found it, and the trinkets provide trade items; the idea is to take an item, then replace it with an item of equal value.

     A giant Community Mural near the post offi ce is the talk of the town in Coudersport. As the massive art display on Third Street takes shape, the organizers could still use more ladders, brushes and other supplies, as well as money donations to meet a matching share requirement for a state grant. Upper portion is a painting depicting scenes that relate the history of Coudersport, with individual themes including nature, Native Americans, early settlers and farming. Lower section of the mural will be made up of tiles that people can paint to reflect what Coudersport means to them. Business owners and local residents can sponsor a tile for $50 dollars. HISTORIC HOMES IN SPOTLIGHT
      Local historians have developed a plan to call attention to some of the historical homes in Emporium. Spokesman Mike Wennin from the Cameron County Historical Society said the plan, which could go into effect this year, revolves around a "walking tour" to spotlight the community's rich heritage. A guide would be developed to spotlight significant homes.

      Burglars strike twice Investigation continues into a camp burglary in Grove Township, Cameron County. Police say unknown individuals stole items from a Norcross Run Road camp owned by Jeffrey Rummel of East Berlin and Darryl Horner of Spring Grove between July 6 and July 23. The same camp was burglarized earlier this summer.
