As older hunters give up the sport, the Pa. Game Commission is taking extraordinary measures to attract children. This week, PGC Executive Director Carl G. A list of Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) properties is now available on the Game Commission website, pgc.state.pa.us. The site lists private and state-owned lands open to hunting with a DMAP permit. Qualified landowners receive a limited number of coupons that they make available to hunters who redeem them for a DMAP antlerless deer permit. More ... One of the most spectacular meteor showers will be able to be observed, weather permitting, at Cherry Springs State Park this weekend. Perseids Meteor Shower Watch has been set from 9:30 pm to 11 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. The park will also offer telescopic observations of the moon, Jupiter and other sky objects. More ... Two faithful employees of the Pa. Bureau of Forestry were honored for their service during a recent awards presentation. John Sidelinger (left) from Emporium was recognized for 30 years of service, while Don Weis from St. Marys was honored for 10 years. More ... A bird-watching tour on bicycle is set for Saturday at Sinnemahoning State Park, starting at 9 am. Riders will explore Lowlands Trail and look for indigo buntings, yellowthroats and warblers.
