      To the editor: Scam artists are trying to use fear, sympathy or emotion to convince consumers to quickly send money to a relative who has been hurt or encountered legal trouble while traveling. Over the past several weeks we have received complaints, especially from senior citizens, who have been targeted.

Abandoned houses a disgrace
      To the editor: I have lived in Cameron County for more than 60 years and have never written a letter to the editor. But I have tried every other avenue there is to try to get someone to pay attention to the problem that my neighbors and I have been putting up with for the past few years.
