FEDS AFTER RIGAS LAND
      When John Rigas was building his Wending Creek Farms, he bought up much of the fertile agricultural land and forested acreage north of Coudersport. But starting in 2002, after the Rigas family was hit with criminal charges in the Adelphia downfall, the farm that was such a source of pride to the family patriarch began to unravel.

     Hilda Franklin, grandmother of Army Specialist Mike Franklin, snipped the ceremonial ribbon to open the new bridge on East Second Street last Friday, just in time for the popular Town-Wide Yard Sales and Labor Day weekend activities in Coudersport. The new bridge carries the same name as the previous structure. It was dedicated to Specialist Franklin, a Coudersport native who was killed by a roadside bomb in 2005 while serving in Iraq. EMERGENCY CENTER FOES FILE APPEAL
      Four Mockingbird Lane couples who opposed the construction of a new emergency operations center near their homes on the Coudersport Borough border are asking Commonwealth Court to reverse a judge's decision to let the project proceed.

      Fatal ATV crash CLEARFIELD - Two men were killed when four all-terrain vehicles crashed Sunday night on Peale Road in Clearfield County. Jermone McClusick, 43, of Bellefonte, and Joseph Kuneck, 38, of Pottstown, were declared dead at the scene of the crash.

Energy savings grants being offered
      Homeowners, businesses and local governments looking for new ways to conserve energy can register for updates on the state's new $650 million Alternative Energy Investment Fund. Rebates and other financial incentives are included. The Pa. Dept. of Environmental Protection will provide email updates on the programs, including how to apply for funding.

      5 Pennsylvania's "partial smoking ban" takes effect in five days. In June, Gov. Rendell signed into law a bill passed by the legislature which bans smoking in all enclosed workplaces, with no exceptions, including restaurants and bowling alleys.

      Coudersport Area School District has a new superintendent. He is Richard F. Toner, who is leaving his position as superintendent in the Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District in Somerset County to accept the Coudersport appointment.

Mission work in Haiti: Enlightening'
      Lindsey Strauch is one of those rare young people who recognized her calling in life as a teenager. All it took was a trip to Haiti, during which the needs of the impoverished citizens tugged at her heart. Today, the 26-year-old has answered the call to service full-time as a missionary for Apprenticeship in Shared Living (ASL).

STATE POLICE REPORT
      Motorcyclist killed A McKean County man died when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it was struck by a car in Eldred Township. Police said Eugene Ennis of Smethport was traveling north on Rt. 446, just north of McCrea Brook Road, Tuesday afternoon when a southbound Ford Taurus driven by June Troutman crossed the center line and struck the cycle.

Man who sold baking soda facing drug charges
      Drug-related charges have been re-filed against an Emporium man, according to papers filed in Cameron County Court. Police reported that Dennis M. Cressley of Emporium allegedly delivered a white, powdery substance purported to be methamphetamine in June 2007.
