Red Raiders to host Brockway
      Brockway's Rovers come to Emporium next Friday night for the latest chapter of a high school football season that is already filled with drama and intrigue. Coach Tony Defilippi's boys - coming off a thrilling 27-26 overtime win against Kane in the opener - were scheduled to play at Ridgway last night.

Falcons fly high in opener, 29-16
      Coudersport is seen by many as the "team to beat" in the Allegheny Mountain High School Football League, despite suffering heavy graduation losses and being guided by a rookie coach. Fans can expect to see tough defense and some big plays on offense, if last week's season opener is any indication.

BASKETBALL RECRUITS
     Emporium's Pat Lewis has added five players from PIAA District 9 to his Penn State DuBois women's basketball team. Coach Lewis this week announced the addition of Whitney Lewis (left), a 2008 graduate of Cameron County High School, and Lauren Delacour (right), a 2008 graduate of Port Allegany High School. Also joining the Lions for Lewis's second year at the helm are Andrea Moyer of DuBois Central Catholic, Lauren Donovan of Oswayo Valley, and Brittany Hoover of DuBois, who has transferred from Clarion University.

CROSS COUNTRY UNDERWAY
      Coudersport kicked off its varsity cross country season going up against a competitive field in the 35th annual McDowell Invitational last weekend in Erie. Falcon junior Emily Giannotti finished fifth. On Tuesday, Coudersport's girls took seven of the first eight places in an 18-45 win at Northern Potter. Emily Giannotti finished 67 seconds ahead of her sister, Allison.

STORM VARSITY NOW 3-0
      Cameron County Storm improved to 3-0 in the Central Pa. Youth Football League with a win at Treasure Lake on Saturday. The varsity squad (ages 11-12) could be looking ahead to next Saturday's showdown with Johnsonburg, also 3-0, on the Emporium gridiron (2 pm).

FALCON GOLFERS EKE OUT WIN
      Coudersport prevailed in an early-season high school golf showdown Wednesday night on the Falcons' home course. Andrew Mickle shot a medal round of 39 to lead the Falcons (4-0) to a 28-27 win over Oswayo Valley and a 31-24 victory against Port Allegany.

GOLFERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED
      Vinnie Brown shot a medal round of 41 as Cameron County's boys improved to 5-0 in varsity golf with a 38-17 win at Smethport Tuesday. Also scoring for the Red Raiders were Josh Strahl (43), Grant Vassallo (44), Jon Lundberg and Ryan Reed.

SOCCER TEAM DEFEATED
      Coudersport's varsity soccer team fell to 0-2 in the early season with a 4-1 loss to visiting Smethport Tuesday night. Jayme Wilcox scored the Falcons' lone goal. Goalie Brian Kane had five saves.

Kinney rejoins St. Louis Cardinals
      Port Allegany's Josh Kinney returned to major league baseball this week, marking a comeback that dates back two years. The St. Louis Cardinals activated the righthanded relief pitcher as they cling to fading hopes of earning a postseason playoff berth as a wild-card qualifier.

Punt, Pass and Kick
      Coudersport Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Saturday morning at CARP Field. Children ages seven to 15 are eligible. Top performers will receive trophies. Gates will open at 10 am and check-in should be completed by 10:30.
