An up-and-coming alternative pop/modern rock band will be performing in Cameron County on Monday night. Capital Lights will appear at the Cameron County Fairgrounds outside of Emporium. More ... Walter "Ed" Badeau III of Emporium is recipient of the annual Elizabeth "Sis" Simons Memorial Award. It's presented by Dickinson Mental Health Center to an employee who consistently goes above and beyond in the performance of duties. Badeau has been a professional counselor at DMHC's Emporium outpatient office for 15 years. He also has provided services in St. Marys and Coudersport. Badeau was praised for his "caring, leadership, advocacy and service." Among other finalists for the Simons Award was Larry Reed from DMHC's Adult Day Treatment Program in Coudersport. Thanks to a safety grant, Austin Borough was able to purchase this speed display trailer which is being used as a speed deterrent at the entrances to town. The trailer, which cost just under $6,000 was purchased from TRAFCON of Mechanicsburg. 'It's a proactive way to encourage safe speeds on the roads coming into the borough,' Austin Police Chief Kyle Day said. 'When people see these things, they slow down and that's what we want, particularly in the school zone area.'
