RAIDERS TAKE BIG STEP TOWARDS TITLE
      Cameron County is in the driver's seat in the Allegheny Mountain High School Football League. Coach Tony Defilippi's Red Raiders (5-0) held off Coudersport, 13-7, in a thriller last Friday night on the Emporium gridiron. It took a goal-line stand in the game's closing minutes to seal the victory. Three of the Raiders' five wins have been nailbiters.

Austin on the chase with Coudersport in volleyball
      Coudersport knocked off one of its two Northern Tier High School Volleyball League rivals, Otto-Eldred, on Tuesday and prepared to take on its other challenger, Austin, on Thursday night. Results weren't available by press time.

     Coudersport's varsity soccer team is showing steady improvement, as evidenced by Saturday's 4-2 win over Brockway at CARP Field. Falcon goals came from Jayme Wilcox, Cooper Bonczar, Brian Kane and Chris Rigas. Goalie Joe Bartholomew had nine saves. Coudersport improved to 3-5-1 with the win.

STORM TO START PLAYOFFS
      Cameron County Storm heads to Ridgway to open the Central Pa. Youth Football League playoffs Saturday, with kickoff at noon. The Storm rolled over the St. Marys Stallions last weekend to close out the regular season with a perfect record.

FALCON JR. HIGH TEAM WINS
      Mitch Freeman and Alex Furman scored two touchdowns to lead Coudersport to a 38-0 junior high football victory over Cameron County last Thursday. Quarterback Tim McCusker also scored on a 10-yard run.

Boys' golf teams tie for fourth
      Cameron County and Coudersport were part of a threeteam tie for fourth place among 13 teams in last Friday's Smethport Invitational Boys' Golf Tournament. Union won the team title by one stroke over Johnsonburg, followed by Kane and then a tie between Coudersport, Cameron County and Bradford.

GIANNOTTI TOPS ENTIRE FIELD
      In a rarity, the fastest runner in a co-ed cross country meet Tuesday evening in Smethport was a girl. Coudersport junior Emily Giannotti was first across the finish line in 20:32, just ahead of the Hubber duo of Jon-Marc Burdick (20:44) and Nate Schwab.

Girls' golf teams prepare
      Athletes from three area schools warmed up for this week's PIAA District 9 girls' golf tournament with a match at the Emporium Country Club on Monday. Coudersport beat Cameron County, 32-23, while Cameron County edged Smethport, 28.5 to 26.5.

TIE IN BUCKTAIL MEN'S BOWLING
      There's a four-way tie for first place in the Men's Bucktail Bowling League in Emporium. Good Real Estate, Austin Vets, Cabin Kitchen and Micron all sport a 20-10 record.
