Crittenden Memories; Pardon John Rigas? Your Nov. 18 story on the Hotel Crittenden brought back memories. I remember bending an elbow in the old "Tap Room" on the side, when Tommy Pekarski and his brother Johnny pulled that old Iron City baseball bat tap for 25 cents a glass. The old softball games were always a blast and those memories will never be erased. I was glad to see the hotel is still alive and well. Thank you to Walter Baker for keeping it going and good luck with your expansion. I found an old post card that shows the Hotel Crittenden in the 1930s, with that big wraparound porch. Maybe you can publish the photo to show it to your readers. The part of the porch that was fronting on Main Street was gone when we lived there but I remember the part on Second Street was still there in the early 1970s. Changing subjects, has anyone considered starting a petition to ask President Bush to pardon John Rigas? He is a great man as far as I am concerned and with his age and his health, I think more than a year in jail is plenty. Let him come home to be with his family. Dave Gross Harrisburg |
