Area police nab thieves, respond to car crashes

Burglar nabbed

A Shinglehouse man has been arrested for allegedly burglarizing three businesses in the borough.

Ryan Dexter, 25, is accused of breaking into Newton's Subs and Pizza, Vinny's Auto and Hunt's Car Wash. After a brief investigation, police searched Dexter's house and found several items taken from the businesses, along with suspected burglary tools.

He's also accused of taking about $1,300 in cash and causing approximately $1,000 in property damage. After arraignment, Dexter was remanded to the Potter County Jail.

Armed robbery

A Christmas Eve robbery landed a Bradford man in jail. Kane-based state police said Dennis Michael Fuino, 48, Bradford, was jailed after being charged with robbing the Crosby Mini Mart, Route 219, Lewis Run, at 4:10 p.m. Monday.

Officers responded to a report of a man entering the business and using a knife to threaten two workers. Fuino demanded money from two cash registers then fled in a pickup truck, police said.

He was stopped by Bradford City Police shortly after the robbery, placed in a photo lineup and identified by the store workers.

Seriously injured

A New York woman was seriously injured Saturday night in a one-car crash on West Bingham Road in Genesee Township, Potter County.

Valerie S. Tucker, 40, of Salamanca, was traveling north when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a berm, causing her car to roll over twice. Tucker was transported to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville before being flown to Arnot Ogden Medical Center for treatment.

State police say she'll be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance.

Head-on collision

A head-on collision on a rural road in northern Potter County Saturday night resulted in serious injures to one of the drivers.

Susanne E. Isaman, 60, of Portville, N.Y., was traveling north on Peet Brook Road, Allegany Township, when her car and a southbound vehicle driven by Emily M. Martin, 20, of Genesee, met at the crest of a hill.

State police from Denton Hill reported that Martin swerved, but the vehicles still collided. She was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.

Isaman, who was not wearing a seat belt was taken by ambulance to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital before being flown by medical helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Police cited Martin for a summary traffic violation.

Harassment charge

State police from Emporium report that a Cameron County resident is facing harassment charges stemming from an incident on Christmas Eve. According to troopers, 21-yearold Steven Crespo of Emporium struck Terry A. Wankel, 22, of Bradford several times in the parking area of a downtown convenience store at 4 pm.

Pickup overturns

Two downstate men escaped with minor injuries when the pickup truck in which they were riding overturned on Wildcat Road in Wharton Township, Potter County.

State police from Denton Hill said 20-year-old Jonathan Frey of York was backing up when the truck slid off the snow-covered road, rolled onto its passenger side and skidded 30 feet down an embankment before coming to rest against two trees. Freu was cited for underage consumption of alcohol.

Later, police charged the passenger, 21-year-old Dustin Reed, also of York, with furnishing alcohol to Frey.

Animal cruelty

A 17-year-old Harrison Township boy is being charged with theft, animal cruelty and criminal mischief for incidents allegedly taking place last week.

According to state police at Denton Hill, the boy was staying at the home of Ashley Hoover, White Knoll Road, Ulysses.

Hoover returned from a trip out of town to discover that her dog was fatally wounded; a boot knife and two jackets were missing and a door was broken.

Truck tips over

Coudersport Borough Police said charges are pending against a local man for leaving the scene of an accident early on New Year's Day. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Zachary Hetrick.

Overturned pickup

Police and emergency service personnel responded to a report of an overturned pickup truck at the intersection of Rt. 6 (Chestnut Street) and Vine Street. The driver was not at the scene. Responders uprighted the vehicle and departed.

Later in the morning, police said, the truck was driven from the scene by an unknown person.

Underage drinking

A Coudersport teenagers is facing charges stemming from an incident early on New Year's Day in Roulette Township.

State police say 18-year-old Christopher Wilkinson was charged with underage possession of alcohol. He was a passenger in a vehicle which was pulled over in the village of Roulette.

DUI incidents Dustin J. Mahon was uninjured after wrecking his snowmobile on Roulette property owned by Joe R. McDowell, 28, on Dec. 20. Mahon, a 23-year-old Roulette resident, will be charged with DUI.

Everard F. Marvin, 49, of Roulette is being charged with DUI and multiple traffic violations after an incident that occurred on Dec. 23.

After being stopped for a vehicle code violation on Dec. 21, 20-year-old Joshua C. Moroschok of Galeton was found to be under the influence and in possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana and related paraphernalia.

Vandalism

Between Dec. 12 and Dec. 15 vandals broke the pumping station warning lamps and globes at the Mid-Cameron Authority in the Emporium Borough causing an estimated $220 in damages. Anyone with information regarding this crime is encouraged to contact Emporium-based State Police at 486-3321.

Possession charges

On Dec. 19, Ryan W. Schrader,25, of McCallen, Texas was taken into custody in the Ulyssess Borough for outstanding bench warrants. At that time, Schrader was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana and related paraphernalia. Schrader will be charged with one misdeameanor possession.

Domestic violence charges

Police are investigating an altercation that occurred on Dec. 23 at a Coudersport residence on Big Moores Run Road.

Police said, Steven C. Heindel, 50, was charged with one count of simple assault and one count of harassment resulting from an altercation he had with his wife Donna M. Heindel, 47.

Steven was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
