Barns: preserving agricultural heritage

An effort is underway to create an inventory spotlighting a disappearing part of the northcentral Pennsylvania landscape: barns.

Northern Tier Cultural Alliance (NTCA) is collecting information about farm architecture to help people understand the lives of families who have labored on farms over the years. Anyone who owns a barn and wishes to participate should email info@ntculturalalliance.org or call 570-268-4093.

A variety of architectural types of barns will be selected for inclusion in a self-guided driving tour brochure. Participation in the survey does not commit one to being on the tour. No one will be included without permission. NTCA will also produce a DVD that features interviews with farm families, photos of barns, history and folklore relating to local agriculture, and footage of barn dances in Potter and Bradford counties.
