Robert F. 'Pap' Vogel
OCTOBER 28, 1933 - JANUARY 3, 2008

Robert F. "Pap" Vogel, 74, of 3729 Rich Valley Rd., Emporium, died Thursday morning (Jan. 3, 2008) at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Mary's.

He was born October 28, 1933 in Warrendale, a son of the late Vincent and Mary (Harrbson) Vogel. On May 17, 1982, in Lawrence County, he married Betty Walton, who survives.

In his younger years, Mr. Vogel worked on the family farm then entered the US Navy and served during the Korean Conflict from Sept. 28, 1954 until Sept. 19, 1958 when he was transfered to the Naval Reserves. At the time of discharge his rank was 2nd class petty officer. He served aboard the USS Coleman AO-55, from 1955 to 1957 and aboard Fireboat YBT221 from 1957 to 1958. He was honorably discharged and received a National Defense Medal.

Mr. Vogel was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and small business owner who often volunteered his services to family, friends and organizations throughout the Emporium area. He had been a member of Chicora Moose since 1973 and in 1983 he transfered his membership to the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 368 of Emporium and the American Legion Olkosky-Jessop Post 194, also of Emporium.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Vince, Art, Bruce and Mike; three daughters, Sandy, Kate, and Alley; four stepsons, Larry, Chuck, Gene and Brian; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Don, Ed and Richard Vogel.

He was preceded in death by parents Vincent and Mary (Harrbson) Vogel.

Friends will be received Friday (Jan. 4, 2008) from 5-8 pm at the Barnett Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 am. The Rev. Dwight Simpson, the Rev. Darel Harris and Mr. Robert Spaeth will share the officiating duties.

A military service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail. Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
