Northern Tier girl basetkball season opens

Northern Tier Girls' Basketball League action opened Wednesday with defending champion Coudersport joining Cameron County, Northern Potter and Oswayo Valley in the winners' circle.

Senior Kristy Kamper erupted for 31 points, nailing seven three-pointers, as Coudersport (8-2) scored a 68- 25 win at Austin. Karli Duffee and Jessica Wilson added 10 points each. Rayna Valenti scored 12 and Cassey Stuckey nine for the Panthers (7-3.)

Kristin Sestina grabbed 19 rebounds to help Cameron County (5-6) beat the visiting Port Allegany Gators (6-5), 51- 35. Sestina also scored 12 points and had three blocks. Whitney Lewis added 10 points and Bethany Dunsmore handed out seven assists for the Red Raiders, who broke away from a slender 19-18 halftime lead. Coach Dave Sullivan said Dunsmore and Shelby Summers keyed an effective backcourt defense.

Northern Potter won at Smethport 42-37. Oswayo Valley topped visiting Otto- Eldred, 38-27.
