Chamber director job still open

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce board members Tuesday revised the job description for the organization's executive director position.

In addition to increasing the required hours worked per week from 20 to 30, board members also noted that there would be a significant increase in responsibility, particularly in the area of "publicity obligations."

The job had previously been held by Shawnarae Callahan, whom the board fired just before Christmas. At that time, the position paid approximately $9,000 per year and included health insurance benefits.

Chamber board members have set a tentative salary of $15,600. They said that increased financial support from the Emporium Foundation will enable them to increase the pay.

The board is still screening candidates for the position.

In other business, Rick Olivett also proposed that membership fee for individuals be decreased. It is currently $20. No decision was made on the matter.

The group discussed taking part in the Sesquicentennial celebration in 2010. A decision was made to draft a letter inviting all municipal officials, civic groups, organizations, church groups and others that may potentially be interested to attend a meeting that would discuss any plans of celebrating the 150th anniversary of Cameron County.
