Dead eagle found at park Cause of death of a bald eagle found dead on Nov. 13 in the reservoir of the George B. Stevenson Dam has been determined after months of investigation. A necropsy performed by the Pa. Game Commission found that the mature adult female had died from heart failure due to an enlarged heart. Cause of the enlargement has yet to be determined. Since it was unknown at the time of the discovery whether the bird had died of natural causes or as the reult of a criminal act, information was not released to the media until this week. Park officials do not know for sure if the eagle was one of one of the breeding pairs that stay at the park year around. Park staff members will continue to monitor the nest site. Questions concerning this incident may be directed toward park naturalists Jackie Flynn or Lisa Bainey at 647- 8401. |
