Upcoming Ed Council classes

Potter County Education Council offers the following schedule of computer education classes in Coudersport: Tuesday, Jan. 22, Word 1; Thursday, Jan. 24, Word 2; Tuesday, Jan. 29, Excel 1; and Thursday, Jan. 31, Excel 2.

Classes are held from 6 pm through 9 pm at the PCEC Coudersport Office, 227 N. Main Street. Cost is $38 and includes a textbook.

Food safety workshop

ServSafe, a comprehensive food safety and certification program for the restaurant and food service industry, is being offered at the Potter County Education Council office in Coudersport.

The 15-hour program meets certification requirements for individuals who are responsible for handling food in restaurants, schools, elderly care facilities, lodges, bed and breakfasts, community centers, and other food concessions (organizations or businesses that sell or prepare food on a regular basis).

Quilting workshop

A workshop to teach participants how to create a lap quilt for Valentine's Day will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, in Port Allegany, from 9 am to 3 pm. For further details or to register, call the Potter County Education Council at 642-2295 or 274- 4877.

Income tax help

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is again being offered for individuals and families earning less than $35,000 per year.

VITA provides free federal and state income tax preparation and money management education as well as e-filing with direct deposit.

Homeowners' workshop

A workshop to help homeowners understand how household systems work will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Potter County Education Council office in Coudersport from 6 pm to 9 pm.

"Homeowner 101" will cover electrical, plumbing and heating/ cooling systems, as well as structural considerations such as the roof, doors, windows and foundation.

Instruction on buying and selling items through the internet auction service, eBay, will be presented at three Potter County Education Council locations,

The class is available for $25 and will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm as follows: Jan. 30 and March 4, Port Allegany; Coudersport, Feb. 21, and Galeton, March 26.
