Sentenced for assault A Potter County man has been sentenced to between eight and 16 months in state prison for sexually assaulting two young children. Judge John B. Leete handed down the sentence last week against Sean Scharlau, 23, formerly of Roulette and Coudersport. Sentencing came after psychologists concluded that they believed Scharlau to be a sexually violent offender and a pedophile. Scharlau and a co-defendant also face separate charges of simple assault, terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment, reporting false information and harassment, stemming from a separate incident involving an eightyear old girl. Man Sentenced A Coudersport man has been sentenced for his part in a burglary taking place during May 2006 at the Austin Game Room. Kyle Woodring, 20, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft. Judge John Leete last week ordered Woodring to spend between 9 and 23.5 months in the county jail. He was also ordered to pay court costs and fees, perform 25 hours of community service, and pay $530 in restitution. Woodring and a codefendant were accused of stealing about $735 in coins from pool tables and machines after forcing their way into the building on Austin's Main Street. They also caused about $350 in damage. In another recent sentencing, 24-year-old Benjamin Brent of Coudersport was ordered to spend between 72 hours and six months in the Potter County Jail on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. Brent was apprehended on Aug. 12 by Coudersport Borough Police after officers saw him at the wheel of a vehicle that was swerving and crossing the center line on Rt. 6 near the Toles Hollow Road intersection in west Coudersport. Chemical testing revealed that Brent had a blood alcohol level of .18 percent, well above the legal limit of .08 percent. He was ordered to pay a $1,025 fine, pay court costs and fees, attend Alcohol Safe Driving School and appear before the DUI Victim Impact Panel. |
