Meller certified

Rafael Meller, M.D. has achieved certification in the subspecialty of geriatric medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also board certified in internal medicine.

Specialists in geriatrics (or geriatricians) provide care for the problems and diseases of old age and aging people. A geriatrician works closely with other health care professionals including other physicians, therapists, home care agencies, pain clinics and support groups to meet the specific needs of patients.

Common ailments that a geriatrician addresses include Alzheimer's disease (and other dementias), arthritis, falls and fall prevention, chronic heart and lung disease, general decline, impaired overall function, incontinence, osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease, sensory problems (vision and hearing) and stroke.

As an internal medicine specialist, Dr. Meller also provides primary care.

He received his medical degree from the University of Passo Fundo in Brazil. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the New York Medical College in New York City and a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Loyola University in Chicago.

He joined the medical staff of Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in the summer of 2007. His office is located at the Patterson Cancer Care Center on the hospital campus.

Appointments can be scheduled with Dr. Meller by calling (814) 260-5208.
