Free help with income taxes

Area families earning $40,000 or less are eligible for free federal and state income tax preparation.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) service is available through Penn State Cooperative Extension, in partnership with community agencies in Cameron, Elk, McKean and Potter counties.

Taxpayers receive free efiling and tax preparation, as well as money management education specific, according to Extension Educator Robin Kuleck, a trained IRS VITA volunteer.

She is prepared to share information on tax credits, law changes, money management identity theft prevention and other topics.

Appointments in McKean and Cameron counties ar available by calling the Family Center. Potter County Educa tion Council offices in Cou dersport, Port Allegany and Galeton are also accepting ap pointments. In Elk County, ap pointments are available at th Community Education Counci in St. Marys and the Extension Office in Ridgway by calling Cooperative Extension.
