Raider wrestling: what next?

One of the most bizarre wrestling seasons in Cameron County High School history is expected to resume next week.

Football playoffs, weather conditions and other situations beyond anyone's control have forced cancellation or rescheduling of numerous matches this season.

Coach Scott Baker's troops expect to return to action Tuesday at Sheffield. It was originally scheduled as a home match, but has been switched to Warren County.

That will be followed by a trip to the Bucktail Tournament in Renovo on Saturday, Feb. 2.

School officials were forced to cancel last weekend's planned trip to a tournament in Lackawanna County, as well as Tuesday's match against Port Allegany, as the result of a PIAA-mandated quarantine due to the mat herpes virus.

Their last time out, Cameron County pulled out a 42-30 win over Johnsonburg in a match that had less than a half-hour of actual competition.

Junior Randy Schatz dropped his 140-lb. foe in 32 seconds. Dom Manginell pulled out a dramatic 2-1 win at 125. Matt Bailey took care of his opponent at 145, 7-1.

Raider Taylor Songer (152) fought into quadruple overtime before bowing, 2-1. Tyler Bidwell (130) and Bryce Frey (135) also saw action.

Forfeit wins were awarded to Hunter Bardo, Mike Baker, Marcus Mullens, Matt Mellott and Ryan Neyman.

Regardless of how the regular season goes, Cameron County does expect to send a strong contingent to the PIAA District 9 Tournament at Clarion University Feb. 22-23.
