Austin's Rayna Valenti joins 1,000 point club

There's a new member of the exclusive 1,000-point club.

Austin High School senior Rayna Valenti passed the career scoring milestone Wednesday night before the home crowd in the Panthers' 54-44 loss to Port Allegany (11-8).

Rayna, the daughter of Jeff and Ali Valenti, is the seventh player in Austin girls' basketball history to score 1,000. She reached the mark on an outside shot with 3:10 left in the second quarter.

She is the third Valenti girl at Austin to reach 1,000 career points joining her cousins, Angela and Kayla.

It was a bittersweet night, as Austin's (9-9) tough luck continued, due largely to the Gators' hot hand from the foul line in the fourth quarter. Valenti finished with 15 points while Whitney Crosby added 14.

Also on Wednesday, redhot Coudersport (16-2) ran its win streak to 15 games with an impressive 83-40 victory at Smethport (12-7). The Falcons, always tough on defense, found the mark on the other end. Karli Duffee (22 points) and Kristy Kamper (21) combined for seven three-pointers. Kelly McVay and Jessica Wilson added 14 points each.

Cameron County (6-11) fell into an early hole and dropped a 48-23 decision to visiting Otto-Eldred (5-14). Kristin Sestina led the Raiders with seven points.

On Monday, the visiting Red Raiders took Port Alle gany down to the wire before falling, 38-36. Bre Dunsmore scored nine points and Brittany Lundberg eight for Cameron County.

Austin stayed even with Coudersport in the first quarter but fell behind by 10 at half time on its way to a 59-36 loss Duffee (15), Kamper (13) and Wilson (11) led the Falcon of fense, while McVay and Kayla Bohn each scored eight points Valenti led Austin with 10.
