Snowmobile season takes hit

Warmer temperatures and rain this week wiped out what would normally be a busy snowmobiling weekend, much to the disappointment of local clubs and owners of motels, restaurants and other businesses catering to winter visitors.

Leaders of the Potter County Snowmobile Club gave up on this year's "Snowdeo" after postponing once and planning to hold the event this weekend.

"Due to lack of snow, we really didn't have any choice," said the club president, Jon Blass. "We're hoping that we'll have better luck next season."

Overall, the season has had some good days, but not enough of them, he noted.

"We don't have enough cover across many of the wheat fields to allow sledders to ride to our clubhouse (on North Hollow Road)," Blass said. "We don't want anyone riding across the ag ground when the snow is marginal."

Those who want to monitor Potter County snowmobiling conditions can check a couple of internet resources: pcscriders. com/trailconditions.html or visitgodscountry.com.
