Austin United Methodist Church kicked off the Lenten season with the second annual Fat Tuesday Dinner, hosted by Shirley and Ernie Roberts of Nelson Run Road (pictured). The tradition is tied in with the Mardi Gras celebration, celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday. A Fat Tuesday custom, the King Cake, was enjoyed and Mardi Gras beads distributed. Those attending also learned about the Christian roots of Fat Tuesday.
