Raider boys host Tuesday playoff game Cameron County tuned up for the boys' basketball playoffs with an 86-46 rout of Smethport Thursday night. The Red Raiders carry an 18-5 record into the postseason, hoping to emerge as one of the four District 9 teams that will advance into the State Championship Tournament. Playoffs open with Clarion- Limestone (12-11) coming to Emporium to meet the Raiders on Wednesday at 7 pm. Winner moves into the D9 quarterfinals on Friday night, probably against DuBois Central Catholic on the Cardinals' home court. Cameron County was in control throughout the game Thursday at Smethport. Coach John Barnhart substituted freely. Scoring leaders were Charlie Holjencin (15) Dan Sullivan (14), Jordan Crane (13), Don Catalone (13) and Matt Kriner (12). Tuesday's 72-47 win over visiting Oswayo Valley was a lopsided game in which the Red Raiders shot out to a 16- point lead in the first quarter and coasted. Crane (16) and Daniel Sullivan led a balanced Cameron County scoring attack. On Monday, Johnsonburg edged the Red Raiders 41-40 in a non-league playoff tune-up game. Crane scored 13 points while Holjencin tallied 10. Last Saturday, Cameron County launched a long-range assault with six three-pointers in a 65-40 win over Ridgway. Holjencin (18) and Sullivan (15) led the charge. |
