Austin girls enter playoffs

Austin has drawn a familiar opponent in the opening round of the PIAA District 9 girls' basketball playoffs.

Coach Dick Logue's team (14-10) travels to Northern Potter (17-7) Wednesday night for a battle of Panthers. Tip-off is at 6. Winner advances to the quarterfinals Friday night, most likely at Keystone, while the loser is eliminated.

Austin closed out its regular season with a 44-35 win over Oswayo Valley on Wednesday. Rayna Valenti scored 25 points and had five steals for the winners. Whitney Crosby scored 11 points to go with 10 assists and seven rebounds. Casey Boucher dished out five assists and had three steals. Hilary Gordnier added to the Panthers' board strength with five rebounds.

On Monday, Austin faded in the fourth quarter in a 55-42 loss to Smethport. Crosby (18) and Valenti (16) led the attack.
