Sestina breaks records; Raider girls close 7-17

Cameron County closed out its girls' varsity basketball season with a 36-30 loss to playoff-bound Smethport (17- 7) Wednesday night in Emporium.

First-year head coach David Sullivan's Red Raiders finished with a 7-17 record after a 6-6 start.

Senior Kristin Sestina wrote her name in the record books as the school's all-time rebounding leader. She had 12 more in Wednesday's game, closing out her career with 773. Alicia Gribble (1993-97) held the previous career mark of 747.

Sestina also set a new single season rebounding record with 307, surpassing Sheila Ramsey's mark of 279, set in 1985.

Additionally, she blocked five more shots Wednesday and finished the season with 112, also a school record.

Sestina (12) and another senior, Whitney Lewis (7) were Cameron County's top scorers in Wednesday's game, a defensive battle that went down to the final seconds before the Hubbers pulled out the win.

On Monday, Sestina finished with 19 rebounds, 16 points and eight blocks in Cameron County's 39-32 win at Oswayo Valley (14-10). Lewis and Bre Dunsmore added six points apiece. Lauren Donovan poured in 21 points for the Green Wave.
