Falcon girls set to open playoffs Coudersport girls' basketball coach Brian Green brings a redhot team into the PIAA District 9 playoffs, hoping to recapture a district title that eluded his team last season. But all is not well in Falcon Land. Illness and injuries have chipped away at the squad in recent days, giving Green cause for concern. "We're definitely not 100 percent," the coach said. "We have a chance to do real well - our goal since the summer has been to win a district championship - but the girls are going to have to step up now to get it done." Coudersport (22-2) opens with a home game at 7 pm Friday against Port Allegany (11- 13). A win would send the Falcons up against either Oswayo Valley (14-10) or Smethport (17-7) on Friday night in a girls/ boys doubleheader back at the Coudersport gym. That winner enters the D9 final four, where Keystone (21-2) could lurk. Coudersport closed out the regular season with a 76-37 win at Otto-Eldred. Kristy Kamper scored 26 points. Freshman Brielle Whitman made her varsity debut with six steals. Kayla Bohn had a hot hand at the foul line and finished with 14 tallies. Earlier in the week, the Falcons defeated visiting Northern Potter, 57-27. Kamper led the way with 14 points, nine rebounds, six steals and four assists. Jessica Wilson added 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Karli Duffee added 12 points including a pair of three-pointers. Kelly Mc- Vay had nine points and five rebounds. Bohn scored eight points and dished out five assists. |
