Hit and run, times three
An Austin man is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a pair of hit and run incidents early Sunday morning.
State police from the Denton Hill barracks report that Gregory Rees, 22, drove his pickup truck off the road and into a porch at a house located on Stiner Street in Austin Borough. Rees then allegedly fled the scene northbound on Rt. 872, where the truck hit a section of guardrail.
Police say Rees then continued on for a couple of miles until his truck went off the side of the road, traveled down a 10-foot embankment, and became stuck. Rees left the scene but was later located and placed under arrest. He was not injured.
Minor injuries
A McKean County woman received minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when her car overturned on slippery Rt. 6, one mile west of Coudersport.
State police said Brenda Young of Smethport was headed east when she lost control of her sedan on the snow. The car drifted off the road, struck an embankment and rolled onto its passenger side.
She was taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital by Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Assn. Police said she is being charged with failing to drive at a safe speed.
Three-vehicle crash
State police from Denton Hill said slippery road conditions were a contributing factor in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on the Hickox Ulysses Road in Bingham Township. There were no injuries.
According to troopers, 19- year-old Brett Nichols of Ulysses was driving north, traveling too fast for road conditions, when his Ford Ranger slid out of control on a right curve. His pickup truck struck a southbound car being driven by Walter Hewitt of Genesee, then skidded off the road and across a ditch before striking the right side of a pickup truck parked in a private driveway and occupied by Turner Polen of Genesee.
Nichols will be charged with two traffic violations.
Vehicles vandalized
Two vehicles parked outside a garage just west of Coudersport Borough in Eulalia Township were vandalized sometime early Saturday morning.
According to police, someone smashed windows, dented fenders and spray painted a car owned by Gleason Motors and a separate car owned by Neal Klimek of Coudersport. The vehicles were parked outside Osborne's Auto Repair, near the Eulalia Township building.
Criminal mischief
A 17-year-old girl from Genesee is being charged with criminal mischief for an incident allegedly taking place early Saturday morning at a home on Grover Hollow Road in Genesee Township.
State police report that the teen, whose name was not released, used a permanent marker to write graffiti on the exterior of a home occupied by Sharon Kio.
Cherry tree felled
State police from Denton Hill are investigating the theft of a mature cherry tree from a Hebron Township property. Property owner Johnson Martin of Mount Joy told officers somebody cut down the tree, with a value of more than $1,000, from a lot on Rt. 44.
Wrong place, wrong time
State police from Denton Hill have charged 27-year-old Daniel Ordway of Whitesville, N.Y. with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Troopers say Ordway was driving a pickup truck on Academy Street in Genesee when he swerved to avoid another vehicle. The truck went off the road and struck a sign located within sight of a state police trooper who was on patrol.
