ST. MARYS -- Construction has begun on the Canadensis apartment on Depot Street in St. Marys, next to Marien Stadt Place. It will be made up of 26 one- and two-bedroom apartments. A first floor will have commercial space.

State grants of $1 million have been approved to complement a $1.3 million statesubsidized loan for the project. It's part of a partnership between the City of St. Marys, Elk County organizations and private investors.

Park project postponed

MT. JEWETT - Renovations to Kinzua Bridge State Park in McKean County will probably not begin until 2009, according to state officials.

Work will include construction of an observation deck on top of the remaining section of the bridge, 200 feet above the creek.

A tornado in July 2003 toppled most of the 2,053-foot long railroad bridge, which was built in 1882. Nine of the original 20 support towers remain standing.

The observation deck and park improvements, including a visitors' center and office, could cost the state more than $9 million.

Kinzua Bridge State Park, consisting of 316 acres, opened in 1970.

Monitoring inmates

WELLSBORO - Members of the public can now check on the status of Tioga County prison inmates. Tioga recently became the 10th Pennsylvania county to start a Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program

Designed to protect victims of crimes from retaliation, it allows residents to check the incarceration status of inmates. Pennsylvania is one of 13 states to receive federal funding to launch a statewide program.

Prison personnel must program an online database. People who have registered for updates on a particular prisoner are notified within 15 minutes of a status change.
