Farmers allowed to bring in hired guns to protect crops Farmers in Pennsylvania will soon be able to call in hunters to address wildlife causing crop damage. The Game Commission has taken steps to meet its obligations under Pa. House Bill 881, which includes the issuance of permits to allow the farmer to enlist the aid of up to two hunters, unless a wildlife conservation officer recommends more permits due to warranted circumstances. Farrmers will have to identify the hunters, the property location, the species causing damage and the extent of the damage caused by wildlife. Landowners who qualify for the program must also be enrolled in one of the agency's public access programs (Farm Game or Safety Zone) for at least 2 years and, if appropriate, possess an agriculture deer control permit. Hunting will be permitted at any hour, day or night. Reports will be required for any wildlife kills and the animals may not be kept. Disposition of the animals will be left to the discretion of wildlife conservation officers. |
