Fowler offered state veterans' representative position

Bernard (Mike) Fowler's term as a member of the Potter County Board of Auditors was shortlived.

The Austin resident, a Democrat elected last November to a four-year term, resigned to accept a state job as veterans' employment representative for Potter County.

His seat on the board was filled last month when Judge John B. Leete appointed Margo Germino of Galeton.

Germino, a Democrat, had been defeated in the November election. She joins incumbents Pat Nichols and Pauline Kleintop on the board serving from 2008 through 2011.

Fowler began his state job this week. He expressed regret for resigning the auditor position after being elected, but explained that the veterans' representative position was not offered to him until he had already taken office.

A former U.S. Navy recruiter, Fowler said he looks forward to helping Potter County military veterans find jobs.
