NEW, HONORARY NAME FOR 4TH STREET In response to a request by the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce, the Cameron County Historical Society and the Sylvan Heritage Council, the Emporium Borough has agreed to pursue the honorary renaming of Fourth Street. If approved by state legislature, the street will receive the honorary title of General McNarney Boulevard. Mike Wennin, president of the historical society and executive director of the Lumber Heritage Region, said that the change would not affect the postal mailing system or any of the addresses on Fourth Street; the change would honor the deceased four-star general from Cameron County in an attempt to increase community pride and awareness of local individuals who have made great achievements. Sylvan Heritage Council has already started to make arrangements to print and hang decorative banners depicting significant people and buildings from Cameron County's past throughout the county. People will be able to honor former businesses or family members by purchasing a banner. For more information, contact the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce at 486-4314. |
