Another area soldier will soon be deployed to Iraq to support the war effort.
Emotions are hanging heavy as Jeff Singer of Emporium prepares to ship out on May 16.
The 21-year-old will be stationed west of Doha, Qatar at Al Udeid Air Base, where he'll be repairing aircraft fro a period of about four months.
"When Jeff first told me he was going to Iraq, my heart sank," said his father, Jim Singer of Emporium.
His mother is Bobbi Jo Singer of Emporium.
"It's hard to say what he will experience overseas," she said. "It's unpredictable, because it all depends on how involved the area ends up being."
Both parents said they're proud of their son's dedication to his nation and are pleased that he has found a career he enjoys.
"I will miss my son," Jim said. "I pray that God will keep him safe."
"They know it's my job," Jeff said in acknowledging his parents' apprehensions.
The Singer family draws comfort from the fact that Jeff will not be on front line. His crew will be responsible for making sure U.S. aircraft are safe to fly.
He serves as a major inspection/ heavy maintenance crew chief with the 49th Maintenance Squadron. His work focuses mainly on F-16 and KC110 aircraft.
"After so many flying hours on the F117A Stealth Fighter, it comes natural to me," he said. "I tear the plane completely apart and put it back together, fixing any broken parts I might find as I go."
He's been stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico for about two years.
Jeff, a 2005 graduate of Cameron County High School went to Lackland Army Flying School and Shepard Air Force Base.
