Scrap metal theft
Troopers from Denton Hill are currently investigating a report of theft that occurred between January and March of this year.
Police said that various scrap metals including mostly copper and brass pipe fittings were allegedly stolen from an estate belonging to James and Claire Shepard of Shinglehouse.
Approximate value of the items was listed as $1,000.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Denton Hill barracks at 274-8690.
Erratic driving ends in
DUI, other charges
An Oswayo woman was charged with DUI last week after she was observed driving erratically in the Coudersport Borough.
After she had been stopped, Stafanie M. Amidon, 33, was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. She was then transported to Cole Hospital for chemical testing.
She will be charged in district court for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and six traffic violations including driving while registration is suspended, failure to use turn signals, not wearing a seat belt and careless driving.
Minor injuries in one
vehicle accident
A father and son from Sabinsville received minor injuries during an accident last Saturday on Loucks Mills Road.
Police said that while Fred R. Powlus Sr. was travelling on slippery roads, he lost control of his 1999 Chevy Suburban and slid across both lanes of traffic while making a turn. After striking an embankment, the vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its roof.
Fred and his son Fred R. Prowlus Jr. refused medical attention for their minor injuries. Another passenger, Irving C. Carslake, also of Sabinsville, was uninjured.
Prowlus will be charged with driving too fast for conditions and failure to wear a seat belt.
Early morning crash
An Emporium teenager and her passenger were injured in an early morning car crash on Rt. 46, just north of West Branch Road in Norwich Township, McKean County.
State police at Kane refused to release the identity of the driver, who lost control of the vehicle on the ice-covered road at about 12:45 Saturday. The car slid into a ditch and rolled over several times.
The driver and a passenger, 23-year-old Trisha Wilkins, also of Emporium were taken to Elk Regional Medical Center in St. Marys for treatment of injuries. The driver will be cited for violating conditions of a junior license, failing to wear a seat belt, and driving too fast for road conditions.
Alcohol case guilty plea
Investigation into illegal alcohol sales at the Austin- Costello Sportsmen's Club has been concluded. The Liquor Control Enforcement Bureau of the Pa. State Police reported that Thomas R. Glover, 80, and Katherine L. Glover, 51, paid fines and costs for selling malt or brewed beverages without a license. The amount paid was not released.
Police began investigating reports of illegal sales in November 2006 and filed charges on Jan. 29, 2008.
Charged with DUI
Coudersport-based state police said a Langhorne, Pa. man was found to be DUI after he had been stopped in the Galeton Borough for an undisclosed traffic violation on Tuesday.
Rodney W. Robinson, 51, will be charged in district court for one count of DUI and one summary traffic violation.
Theft
Police on Denton Hill are investigating a theft that occurred sometime between last December and last Monday.
Sometime in that time frame, unknown actors removed a padlock from a wooden shed at a Ulysses property owned by 77-year-old Carl H. LeBar of Shinglehouse. LeBar told police that they stole a white microwave oven, a 10"x13" 'scenery' painting and a 10"x13" flower painting.
Home burglarized
Someone broke into a home on Rich Valley Road in Shippen Township last Thursday. State police from the Emporium barracks investigated the burglary at the home of Barry L. Bates.
Sought his own justice
A Potter County man who wanted payment for logs he had sold to a business in Liberty, Tioga County, took matters into his own hands last week.
State police at Mansfield report that 58-year-old Robert Mallery of Shinglehouse was charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespass. Last Friday afternoon, police say, Mallery cut a chain and padlock at the front gate to Global Timber Products property on Route 414 to retrieve the logs.
Retail theft
On Wednesday, Emporium Borough Police arrested a man for stealing multiple items from the Sheetz convenience store.
According to police, Robert A. Cheatle, 46, of Emporium allegedly took several consumable goods from the store without paying for them last week. He will be charged for one felony count of retail theft.
Knocking out windows
Police from the Coudersport barracks on Denton Hill are investigating an act of criminal mischief that occurred last Saturday in Roulette.
While pounding on the door of a trailer owned by Jason R. Gutshall, unknown actors broke the glass window in the door and then left the scene.
Brandishing firearms
An Emporium woman, Desiree C. Reider, was arrested for simple assault after she pulled a gun on a St. Mary's man, Eric C. Reider, on Wednesday during a dispute at her residence.
The female Reider was released on $5,000 bail.
